Flea Control
Fleas are the most common external parasites in pets and cause many skin issues. They continually shed eggs in the home and can lead to an infestation very quickly. Flea bites to you can be costly to treat.
Although small, fleas can make your pet miserable. They can bite every 5 minutes creating itchiness which leads to scratching thus causing sore skin. Some pets are allergic to the flea bite and can quickly become very poorly. One female flea can lay up to 50 eggs every day!!
We stock a range of different flea treatments (spot on and tablet form) for cats and dogs and our vets can advise on the most suitable one for your pet.
Worm Control
- Many pets will have worms with no outward signs
- The very young and very old pets are more at risk of suffering from having worms.
- If your pet should produce a worm(either through vomiting or faecally) you can bring it to the surgery for us to examine
- Worms can be passed to humans and some toundworms can cause blindness in children
- Worms can also affect livestock when passed in infected dog faeces. In cattle and sheep this can cause abortions and fertility issues
- Flea control also aids in preventing tapeworms
Young animals need regular worming for roundworms and tapeworms. Adult pets should geerally be wormed every 3 to 6 months as a preventative measure especially if there are children inn the house. Worms can be picked up from another infected animal especially if they lick/sniff around bottoms, from ingestion of eggs or larvae in grass or from raw meat or from infected prey animals. If yor cat is a regular hunter they may need more frequent treatment.
We offer either a tablet or a spot on wormer for cats and tablets for dogs. Some flea treatments also treat roundworms. Please ask the vet for advice on the best treatment for your pet.
